You’ve driven by it thousands of times but have you ever been
on the P? I have hiked nearby but today was the first time I
actually stood on the P. The ascent can be slow going and steep in
areas but it’s the descent you have to watch out for. For me
that’s always the danger and today I had yet another spill.
No trail of blood was left but some skin was left on some rocks.
Reminded me of my most painful geocache
hunt.
When logging your find please include an anecdote about your most
painful experience from Geocaching. Post a link to the log if you
like. No need to be self-conscious here. Include all the ugly
details. After all I share your pain.
From wikimapia:
Palomar College opened in the early 1940s, but it wasn't
until
1952 that the ubiquitous 'P' appeared at the top of the hill
behind
the college's main San Marcos campus.
Created in 1952 by seven graduating sophomores, the P was
not
expected to be a long-lasting legend.
The project was funded with a generous budget of $10.
After a half-acre of land was cleared, a rig that sprayed
lime
and cement was hauled up the mountain. This created the
perimeter
of the P, according to Palomar College's Historical
Archives.
In 1986, the Circle K Club re-limed the P in honor of
Palomar's
40th anniversary - in hopes to rejuvenate school spirit. The P
has
not been re-limed since it's rejuvenation in 1986, and is in
need
of serious maintenance.
Please practice good Geocaching etiquette. Hide the cache well
even if you found it exposed. Remove any debris (leaves, twigs etc)
you find in the cache. If you trade please leave something of equal
or greater value for the next finder. Please do not leave any
religious or political trade items. Geocaching is supposed to be a
light, fun activity, not a platform for an agenda. Do not leave any
food or anything else an animal might sniff out (soap, scented
candles, etc). HAVE FUN!
