AAC, Treasures of Scouting: AdVenturing Crew Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

doctor mole: Simpsonwood Retreat Center has, finally, been sold. The good news is that the buyer is Gwinnett Parks and they do intend at some point to re-open the property. Honestly I have read their geocache permitting rules and guidelines and don't want to deal with them. The implication is, from the rules, that there wouldn't be caches allowed here anyway. But I'm already working with nearby Autry Mill park to move this cache over there. The folks I spoke with are excited about having more caches in the park so look for more over there soon! I really want to keep the AAC BSA Centennial geocache series intact.

Geocache Description:

Simpsonwood has, finally, been sold. The buyer is Gwinnett County Parks, and I have no expectation that they will allow caches once they re-open the property. And I don't look forward to their cache permitting process. It's been a good ride! However I'm already working with the nearby Autrey Mill park to move this cache over there to keep the BSA Centennial caching series intact.

Located in the 227 acre Simpsonwood Retreat Center with permission of the management. Hours are 6 AM till sunset so please do not hunt at night. Container is a good-sized ammo box with room for a few Pinewood Derby cars.

To help preserve the natural areas please park at or near the designated coordinates provided. Next, to help preserve the delicate plant life - and to help you avoid the soft, swampy areas! - proceed to the Trailhead coordinates and follow the trail towards the river. Then follow along the river as you approach ground zero. From that point there will be virtually no bushwhacking required, so please don't bushwack. At times the trail is a bit steep & runs extremely close to the river so do please be very careful - and enjoy the wonderful views!

For 100 years, the Boy Scouts of America has helped youth become more than they ever thought possible. And we’ll continue that journey into the next century. The Venturing program is open to young men and women between the ages of 14 and 20. It is a unique program because it uses extreme outdoor adventure and other Crew focused activities as a method for building character, peer-to-peer bonds, and independence. Geocaching Crews are a great addition to the Venturing Program! This cache is placed in hopes that all young men and women will venture forth to do great things.

The Get in the Game! committee of the Atlanta Area Council is maintaining this cache for people to discover. It is a regular cache that has several Scouting items, Scout patches, and other fun items for trade. If the cache is low on trading items please let me know through the account on geocaching.com

This is the second "Treasures" cache placed by the Atlanta Area council. In addition to AAC, Treasures of Scouting: AdVenturing Crew, we’ve hidden four other caches highlighting Scouting programs. Find all five! Search AAC, Treasures of Scouting on Geocaching.com.

If you are an Eagle Scout or involved with Boy Scout be sure to sign your name, what troop and council you were with, and what rank you got to. If it was Eagle let us know what year.
