Geocache Description:

An introduction to Primley Woods, an area to explore and enjoy close to the town. The cache placed with the kind permission of the reserve warden.

Primley Park is a public open space owned and managed by the Whitley trust www.wwct.org.uk/primley-park.php and first opened its gates in 1995. Since then it has become a very popular place for those seeking more natural surroundings in the middle of Paignton. Once the extended garden of Paignton Zoos (www.paigntonzoo.org.uk ) founder Herbert Whitley, the park is now available to anyone. The Park is edged all around by trees sheltering it away from the town and once inside the visitor can walk around the meadow and woodland and feel removed from the hustle and bustle of urban life.
The meadow gives Primley its name as it comes from the term ‘prime lea’ or ‘best meadow’ and was grazed by horses prior to it being opened to the public. With open hay meadow, specimen trees and large scrub banks the meadow is very scenic and a great habitat for nature.
The woodland is home to some mature trees of significant age, which are managed carefully.
This cache can be visited at any time of day or night, but if you try around dusk or just after, you might see badgers if you are very quiet. There are areas in the wood that can become very muddy and slippery after a lot of rain so take care especially if you go in the dark. Suitable footwear is recommended.
This is a very popular park with the locals. As this wooded area is on a fairly steep hill and paths run parallel you can be looked down on without realizing it, so extra stealth is required at each location particularly at the final cache site.
This is a multicache consisting of a series of 3 microcaches (filmpots) leading to a final ammobox. Recent work in the area, has made the location of the third micro harder to access, therefore we have moved it a few meters. (This info is only really relevent to those cachers who need to 'phone a friend' who has rpeviously done it)
There is parking available on the road near the main entrance to the park..
The route has been contrived to only need to change the last 3 digits, each time, to lead you to the next site. It is important that you make a note of the last digit of the West coordinate of each micro. Keeping them referenced as such. You will need them later. In our experience on this and other caches, it is best to use the co-ordinates to pinpoint the cache rather than the 'distance to' feature as it is less accurate.
Things to remember are:-
1. Keep to the established paths.
2. This is a circular route so don’t double back.
3. Return all caches EXACTLY where you found them using camouflage to ensure they are well hidden as this is a much used area by children and dog walkers

The final cache is located near several paths, so muggles can appear from ANY direction, therefore extra stealth is required. We have recently noticed a den has been built very close by, so have a good look around before attempting to finally locate the cache. When you are within a few feet of GZ you should see a 'roof' made from small tree trunks laid flat across a shallow gully. Please make sure you return it exactly where you found it and use natural camouflage to make sure it cannot be seen from any direction.
We have attempted to make the final cache muggle proof so would appreciate your cooperation in keeping it this way.
Enjoy the peace of the woodland. A nice cool place on a hot summers day.

The first stage of another of our caches, Paignton People and Places is just along the road so why not kill two birds with one stone while you are parked here and start that one off.
