Cache located on a bluff over the McClellan-Kerr Navigation Channel
off to the side of the Chouteau National Trail.
The Chouteau National Trail runs alongside the McClellan-Kerr
Navigation Channel. Its maintenance varies from year to year. Right
now its in pretty good shape. The trail is a two-track dirt trail
easily passable on foot or mountain bicycle. Motorized vehicles of
any kind (cars, trucks, motorcycles, 4-wheelers, etc.) are
prohibited - always. Horses are prohibited during deer hunting
season.
The easy hike to this cache from the only available parking is
about 1 mile. Parking coordinates are shown below. Terrain is
basically flat with some deep muddy ruts left by people who have
ignored the restriction on motor vehicles -- please do not do this
as heavy fines will result along with the possible removal of this
geocache. This trail is surrounded by all kinds of nature so be
prepared for bugs, critters, varmints, deer, etc.
You may come across some of the Corps of Engineers Survey Markers
along the trail:
And if you're really lucky you'll be able to watch a tugboat moving
some barges down the navigation channel. From the bluff near the
cache you will have an unobstructed view of the barges. I just
missed this one on the day I was placing the cache.
Please use reasonable caution during deer hunting season.
Permission has been given to place this cache by the US Army Corps
of Engineers, Fort Gibson Lake Office. Phone: (918) 682-4314.
Please abide by all posted curfews and usage rules, particularly
those that prohibit motor vehicle traffic on hiking trails. Extreme
penalties apply as well as the potential removal of all geocaches.
