Welcome to the Turks and Caicos National Museum Cache! You will be looking for a regular size Lock/Lock container on the grounds of the Museum. If you come by cruise boat, you can take a taxi or rent a car at the cruise boat terminal and visit this cache and see the island the way you want to see it. It is about 3 miles, as the crow flies, from the cruise boat dock.
This is the country's first and only museum. It occupies a 200 year old residence, Guinep House, originally built by Bermudian salt merchants from timbers they salvaged from ships that crashed on nearby reefs. Today about half of its display areas are devoted to the remains of the most complete archaeological excavation ever performed in the West Indies, the wreck of a Spanish caravel (sailing ship) that sank in shallow water sometime before 1513. At first it was thought the ship wreck was Columbus' Pinta, but researchers proved otherwise. Columbus was thought to have landed here during his explorations.
If you choose to visit the museum, (but not necessary to find the cache) a modest charge of $7 or $5 with proof of Cruise Boat identification.
Having trouble finding the cache? Ask any museum worker, who will be happy to assist you.
If the Museum is not open, please send me a description of what you see looking outward from the front door and log it in as a "find". The cache is accessible during business hours and then some.
If you like this cache, please give it "Favorite Point". I'd like to think that this type of cache is what geocaching is all about!.
You are encouraged to either take the museum tour or donate something to the museum to keep this cache alive and going. A simple $5-$10 donation goes a long way here.
Small note on cache maintenance: There is a local cache guardian. Name and contact info on file with geocaching.com.
