This is our first cache, it is a small cache containing log book and pen, and originally a Geocoin " HELP THE HEROES" which has been requested to be taken and placed at WWI or WWII airfields around Britain. If you take out this coin please make sure that you can relocate to a similar location, thankyou.
RAF Dundonald was established during the WWII loated to the north of Dundonald. The airfield began as a simple emergancy air strip but was later to become home to 516 Combined Operations Squadron.
The main runway at Dundonald was reconstructed during 1943, and was used for exercises for the Normandy landing in 1944.
The airfield was closed in 1945, and now farmland, the airstrips can still be traced in the fields.
For a more indepth history to 516 C O S and RAF Dundonald, follow the link below, lots of detailed reports and photographs from the airstrip and near by Dundonald Camp.
