Geocache Description:

Latimer's first cache.

One of two parks in town, this one is just north of the house where I grew up. This park has the local ball diamonds, a picnic shelter, playground equipment and the bus barn for CAL Community School District.

The bus barn was built in 1935 and when constructed was the gym for the Latimer School District. It also housed the home ec room on the west end and showers under the stage on the east end. Sometime in the late 30s or early 40s the Harlem Globetrotters played a game in this gym. The original school at this location was a one room school built in 1883. That building was moved in 1898 and a two room one story building was built in it's place. A second floor and basement were added in 1904. A 3 year high school was added, dropped and eventually added back first with a 9th grade and ending with grades 9-12 in 1920. Latimer and Coulter schools consolidated in 1950 and a new school building was built between the two towns and is still in use today as CAL Community including children from the towns of Coulter, Alexander and Latimer and the surrounding rural area.
