Geocache Description:

This statue of a market gardener has been erected to acknowledge the hard work and dedication of the early settlers in the Horowhenua District.


Market gardening has played an important part in the development of the District. The first major gardens were established in 1912, and the industry is now a very significant part of the local economy.

The plaque was unveiled by her excellency the Governor- General of New Zealand. The Honourable Dame Silvia Cartwright, PCNZM, DBE on the 29 April 2006. The sculpture was commissioned by Dennis Hall. The Rotary Club of Levin gratefully acknowledgedges all the donors that contributed to the statue.

The cache is a eclipse container and you will need to bring your own writing instrument.

Please NOTE that you must sign the logbook for each individual cachers or proof of a photo for group logs, otherwise your log may be deleted. Please hide the cache exactly how you found it as we dont really want it to get muggled as this can be a HIGH MUGGLE area.
