Youngs Siding Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Ngaambul: As there's been either no response from the cache owner, no cache to find or log to sign, or it's been a number of months since the last owner note. I'm archiving it to keep it from continually showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements. If you wish to repair/replace/make available the cache sometime in the near future (next 30 days), just contact us (by email), and assuming it meets the current guidelines, we'll be happy to unarchive it. Should you replace the cache after 30 days has passed please create a new cache listing so it can be reviewed as a new cache.

Geocache Description:

A disguised little micro/nano hidden amongst the picnic area in Youngs Siding a great excuse to stop on your way to or from Denmark and Albany or hopefully on your way to do the Nullaki trio

YOUNGS SIDING

The townsite of Youngs Siding is located 34 km west of Albany and just outside of Denmark . In 1889 Millars Karri and Jarrah Forests Ltd constructed a railway line from Torbay Junction (now Elleker) to Torbay, and in the mid 1890's Millars extended the line to Denmark. One of the sidings on the extended line was named Young's, and in 1903 the government set aside land at "Young's Siding" for a future townsite. In 1911 the "Young's Siding and Lake Saidie Progress Association" requested the government make land available at Young's Siding. The land was very wet and low lying, and it was 1916 before any lots were surveyed. The townsite of Youngs was gazetted in 1917, the siding being dropped from the name by a government decision. Although officially Youngs, local usage remained Youngs Siding, and in 1999 the name of the townsite was amended to Youngs Siding. The name honours David Young 1825-1918, a farmer who took up land in the area in the 1850's and later farmed at Marbelup. (Information taken from "Land Gate history of towns")

Most of us just know Youngs Siding for the small general store on station road that sells the basics as well as Ice Creams, fuel and liquor. Out side the store on an Island of reserve you will find a couple of gazebo's and picnic benches this the location of the hide! TO HELP ENSURE THE LONGGEVITY OF THIS CACHE you will find that when retrieving the cache you will not be in line of sight with the shop, if you find your self searching in view of the shop then you are looking in the wrong spot!
