Site is located in a roadside cut on the 57 Federal Highway, in the vicinities of the city of Sabinas, Coahuila. There is also a rest area in front of the site so you can safely park your car to during the visit.
El sitio esta localizado en un corte de la Carretera Federal 57, en las cercanías de la ciudad de Sabinas, Coahuila. Tambien hay un área de descanso en frente del sitio, así que puedes estacionar tu auto de manera segura durante la visita.
In this EARTHCACHE site visitors will find, at least, four diferent types of rock.
From base to top you will find the fluvial (1) shale and (2) sandstones from the Olmos formation (late Cretaceous); overlaying the Olmos formation, and showing an erosive unconformity, a (3) oligomictic conglomerate of a Pre-Pleistocene age (mainly composed of rounded limestone clasts); and finally, at the top of the column, (4) Pleistocene basalts.
Additionally, Olmos formation rocks can bear fossils such as fresh water bivalves and gastropoda, wood fragments and also crocodile teeth, so look carefully...
En este EARTHCACHE los visitantes encontraran, al menos, cuatro diferentes tipos de roca.
Desde la base hasta el techo encontraras lutitas y areniscas fluviales de la formación Olmos (Cretácico tardío); sobreyaciendo a la formación Olmos, y mostrando una discordancia erosiva, un conglomerado oligomíctico de edad pre-Pleistoceno (compuesto principalmente de clastos de caliza redondeados); y finalmente, en el techo, basaltos del Pleistoceno.
Adicionalmente, la formación Olmos puede contener fósiles, tales como bivalvos y gasterópodos de agua dulce, fragmentos de madera y dientes de cocodrilo, así que observen cuidadosamente...
Some interesting sedimentary structures can be found within these rocks. Structures in basalts area also interesting.
Algunas estructuras sedimentarias interesantes pueden encontrarse dentro de estas rocas. Las estructuras en los basaltos son también interesantes.
