Due to its unique location and topography, the Sacramento area has
many creeks and sloughs. Elder Creek is one of the many creeks that
end up feeding Morrison Creek, which feeds the Sacramento River.
Streams were first impacted by farming, starting in the late 19th
century when the native grasslands and sparse riparian vegetation
were displaced by crops, pasture, and invasive non-native grasses
and weeds. The first major relocation of these creeks occurred with
the construction of the Sacramento Army Depot in 1945.
You can hardly see the creek here, it's fenced and concreted and
blocked from view. Do not climb or go through the fence, it's an
easy drive-up. "If your GPSr indicates anything else, particularly
something unwise or unsafe, severely chastise it (threaten to
replace it) and curtail its visits with HAL (see Stanley Kubrick's
"2001"). Container is a larger, painted altoids-type tin.
