Geocache Description:

The coordinates listed will not take you to the cache. They will take you roughly to the start of the trail system of Kendrick Woods. To find the cache location you will need to walk the trails of Kendrick Woods, find the waypoints downloaded with this cache listing and answer simple questions to create the correct cache coordinates. The park is closed from Dusk to Dawn so please make this a daytime one.

Kendrick Woods is one of the several parks in Johnny Appleseed Metropolitian Park District. It has everything you would want from a park. This is a favorite place of mine to walk, mainly because it has the most milage of trails that are covered by trees in the area (about 5 miles). It also has a great playground for my son to play at.
For years I have wondered why there isn't already a cache here, and since I never could figure that out, I decided to get permission to put one here and do it. I decided to create a cache that requires the seeker to explore most of the trail system here. These trails are well maintained but are not sutable for wheel chair and most baby strollers, although you could proabably do ok with the jogging strollers that are out there. However, when I brought my wife along to walk the path and test the waypoints and questions I took my 18m son in our basic stroller and it did OK. The area does flood after a lot of rain, but I don't think the park ever closes because of it. Also, bugs are bad in the summer so bring bug spray. Dogs are allowed on leash in the field area but are not allowed on the trails. Bikes are also not allowed. This would be a good cache for young children as long as they can hike the distance. Kids will love answering the questions.
To find the coordinates to the final cache location you will need to stop at each waypoint and answer the questions below. I would suggest doing them in order because that is the way I wrote it up and you will finish fairly close to the cache location and your car. Most will prabably create the coordinates as you hike, but you could also take the answers back to you car and make the substitutions and then find the cache without having to walk to much more. You will end up walking about 3 miles and take 1-2 hours to complete the cache. There may be times were you may think "I can just walk through the woods and get this waypoint out of order," but please don't. All answers can be done in order just by walking the trail system. Don't leave the trail to either make shortcuts or just answer questions.

Here are the questions:

A = The third number in the date on the plaque at this location.

B = The number of benches at this location.

C = Addition of the first and second digit of the number of vertical columns on the right handrail of the bridge at this location.

D = The multiplication of the number of trunks on the weird tree on the right side of the trail by 3.

E = The multiplication of the number of letters on the wooden sign by 2.

F = The shape that is created by the animal hole in the weird tree on the right (Not the holes created by the two trunks growing together).

G = The number of letters in the top word on the sign.

H = Addition of the first and second digits of the number of planks on the bridge at this location.

I = The number of white poles in the location. Look close to the ground.

J = The number found on this wood marker.

K = The number of planks on this bridge minus one.

L = The number of white signs on the other side of the creek.

Enter those numbers into their corresponding letter below and you will have the coordinates to the cache.

The cache started as an Ammo Can, but quickly came up missing. Then I replaced it with a small tuppaware container and it was destroyed by either people or animals. I decided this is not a safe place for trackables so I replaced it with a micro camo matchstick holder. I am not happy that it is a micro now, but it should still be fairly easy to find once in the area. I am going to work on redoing the questions in a way that allows me to place the container in more quiet location and turning it back into a large cache. Bring your own pencil.

If you would like to hunt for this cache, but have small children or other people who cannot make the hike, email me and I will email you the answers to the questions. However, please don't cheat on this knowledge. The trails really are beautifull and worth the walk.
