Geocache Description:

Congratulations to boatchick on being the First to Find.

The cache is not located at the coordinates given. Don't go there unless you plan to play some golf. You must accomplish the task provided below to acquire the coordinates for the cache.

>On 29 September 2011 the cache page has been updated to reflect the current park sign codes. If you started the process prior to March 2011 you might have some sign code errors. In that case just email me the codes that you have and I'll give you the correct ones in return. If you started on this adventure after March 2011, you probably already have the correct code letters. If the math doesn't work out or if you want to confirm your calculated coords, just send me an email..

>See Ham2405 note of 3/10/2011: "I've done 23 of 35 parks on the way towards getting all the letters in the past 8 months. Possible solution: keep the info the same, but have folks submit their finished list of parks with code letters to you. In my example, my list would then have some old and some new code letters. Review my list and provide an old code letter to go with the new correct code letter. Wouldn't be much work since only 8 people have completed this one in 18 months!" .

The city of Arlington has 42 parks with trails. Each of these trails has a sign on it, somewhere, that looks like this:

Your task is to visit the parks in Arlington, hike the trails and find the signs. Each of these signs has a Trail Verification Code Letter. Convert that letter to its numerical value, i.e A=1, B=2, C=3, etc. Substitute that numerical value for the letter in the coordinates. The letter is unique for the park that you are visiting as listed below:

qq. Center Street Trail, starting at Abram and Center Street 1.00 mile North. (S=19)

N (z-aa) (oo-hh) (b-f+a-j) (r+v-gg-nn).(e+mm+x-j-p) (o-pp-ff) (bb+x-h-a)

W (c) (qq-w-i+s) (ii+jj-p-kk-ss) (u+h-pp-k).(n+ee-d) (rr+v+k-cc-m) (y-tt-t-g)

Got that all figured out? NO! Well heres some examples:

Lets say you just happen to visit Gateway Park and you find the sign. The sign has the verification code L. Well L is the 12th letter in the alphabet, so subsitute 12 for the letter z in the N coordinate. How did I know it is for the letter z? Because z is identifying Gateway Park as depicted above.

Now you just by chance visit Gene Schrickel Park, that is identified by the letters aa above. You hike the trail and find the sign and it has the letter I on it. Substituting 9 for I and replacing the aa with 9, you now have an equation to solve. The equation is (z-aa) or 12-9 and that equals 3. Amazing enough, 3 is the first number in the North coordinate.

You can practice your mathematical skills by doing the Freebie parks shown above. You should come up with N32 and W97. If you don't, drop Hikeaday a line. Don't write me, I haven't the foggiest idea how this works.

I've indicated, in the attributes, that the cache is wheel chair and stroller accessable. However, neither would be able to make it to the final. If any wheel chair bound cacher is able to come up with the coordinates for this cache, you are welcome to claim it as a find. And for stroller pushing parents, Wee Willy's Mom, Hikeaday, and I would willing keep an eye on the little one while you search for the cache.
