Geocache Description:

Our family thought it would be great to explore the Newman Lake area. We each chose different areas to place a cache and give some history on the nearby area (the cache may not be located exactly as the history states but is close to the original location). Please enjoy the series: remember to bring a writing utensil, there is some geo swag, and as always feel free to CITO.

NEWMAN LAKE HISTORY TOUR 39 - SUTTON BAY

Sam Sutton was an early settler with his family on the lake. Sam had two sisters: Maude and Bessie. In 1907 he married Anna Thom. They homesteaded Sutton's Bay on Newman Lake operating a boat from Day's Landing to summer homes on the lake. He also worked in a saw mill and ran his own resort where he died of tuberculosis in 1941. The family had no children.

Congratulations to LLCOOL for FTF !
