Kent Lost pubs is a series started by LVT - remembering old pubs in Kent, all unfortunately now closed.
I was aware that this pub existed and it closed in 2004 though the exact date is unknown. Despite its demise you will still find it listed on the UK pub finder website – I have been told that people still ask the present occupants if they still serve beer even though it no longer looks like it is open.
Also all I could find on the internet about this pub (other than being advertised as still being there) was a listing under the Tonbridge and Malling Borough Council planning applications with the following for this location
“06 January 2006 - Grant With Conditions
Conservation Area Consent: Demolish existing kitchen area, build new
kitchen, conservatory, one dormer, new tiled roofs over existing flat roofs and
reinstate entrance at The Artichoke Inn, Park Road, Hadlow, Tonbridge, Kent “
Other than that I can not find anything else about the history of the pub
If anyone does know anything more about this pub and its history please let me know and I will add it to the description.
Parking is near the old pub at N51 14.814 E000 19.728 though this is for one vehicle only. DO NOT park opposite the old pub - this is private parking only. The cache is a short walk (about 0.44 miles) from suggested parking place. From there head down to the old pub which is at N51 14.782 E000 19.611 - opposite the old pub and next to the private parking you will find the start of a footpath follow this round and onto the cache location.
If anybody would like to expand the Kent Lost Pubs series please do, we would just ask that you let LVT know first so we can keep track of the Pub numbers and names, to avoid duplication. Please avoid pubs that have become restaurants.
