Geocache Description:

The first in a series of caches that will take you to locations of historical significance in the Shoalhaven.

Human history in the Shoalhaven begins with the Wandandian (in the south) and Wadi Wadi (further north) people, the original 'Locals', who have inhabited the area for over 20000 years. More than 100 prehistoric Aboriginal sites have been recorded in the Jervis Bay/Booderee area, some probably dating back about 6000 years. This site was chosen as the cache site because it is a site publicly available and has no cultural taboos preventing certain people from visiting the site (unlike many sites which may be Women's Sites, Men's Sites or sites of such significance to the Wandandian people that it would be inappropriate to bring non-Aboriginal people to see them).

The cache is located near a rock containing axe-sharpening grooves. Aboriginal people made the grooves when they shaped and sharpened stone axes by grinding them against the sandstone. Other sharpening grooves may be found in the nearby creek bed.

There is no hint available at the moment. I don't think one will be required, but let me know if you disagree.

A small FTF memento is in the cache for the speedy FTFer.

FTF honours to Mick-Dyana, logged the cache just 3hrs, 58 minutes after it was published.
