BACKGROUND:
This cache will take you to yet another location where you will
find the remains of an old foundation. The entire area is
surrounded on all sides by farm pastures. What is the importance of
the fragmented forest you will be standing in? Why was it never developed? Who lived here? How long
ago? I have tried to find information about this location and have
come up empty-handed. So, what better way to find information than
to create a geocache here, attract
others, and eventually get someone here who can provide some light?
Please email me any details you can of this area and I will edit
this description with new information.
The safest place to park is at N 43° 06.247 W
079° 08.191 along the boulevard. Look closely and you
will find a very narrow walkway entrance (only about a foot and a
half wide) beside the fence at N 43° 06.220 W 079° 08.215. The walk
out to this cache allows for some great wildlife watching. The area
was re-developed 1-2 years ago and several deep ponds were dug,
with the trail literally passing right along the perimeter. You
will see what I mean as you walk out. If you are a birdwatcher, you
will be very impressed
with what has been done back here!
GEOCACHE DETAILS:
This is a fairly large tupperware-container cache that is well-stocked
with a variety of items, most of them catering to adults. As with
the other caches in the Foundations series, the coordinates will
lead you the location of the cache in an old foundation. Keep the
size of this one in mind as you are searching. Dense tree cover in
the summer may interfere with good readings. If the find is proving
difficult, 2 spice bottles were also hidden in ‘typical
geocaching locations’ around the
foundation that will give you a more specific hint to the cache.
The FTF will have their choice of a whole variety of interesting
items. However… this is a
large case and I tried to fill it with appropriately large items
that do not fit into 90% of the other caches in Niagara. Please
think about this before you seek it out – bring some
replacement items of larger than usual size, value, etc. and
maintain the integrity of the cache for as long as we
can.
