Like many riverside communities the ability to get across to the other side was of great importance to early Outlook and area residents. The first ferry in the area (the Rudy Ferry) was located near Mr. Nels Rudy's general store and post office, several miles north of Broderick. The R.M. of Rudy was also named for this gentleman. The west-side landing of the ferry continues to be a popular spot for locals to hang out and watch the river, and for canoeists to disembark after a day of paddling.
As early as 1908 Outlook residents petitioned the CPR to include traffic lanes on the railway bridge that would soon be constructed. In 1912 the railway bridge was completed without traffic lanes, and despite further discussions traffic lanes were not later added.
At the south end of Outlook (a little north of where the old traffic bridge is located) was another ferry. It landed beside where the golf course is located today, and if you walk along the river you can see the rocky area where it landed on the east side. This ferry went out of operation in 1936 with the opening of the traffic bridge. In turn, the old traffic bridge went out of service in the fall of 1998 when the new Outlook bridge was officially opened.
Parking is available near the cache. Turn north immediately to the west of the new traffic bridge and park on what remains of the roadway leading to the old bridge. Please adhere to all 'No Trespassing' signs in the area (do not follow the road downstream along the river). Do not pass Go. Do not collect $200.
Cache is a small container.
