Geocache Description:

The Blue Idol is a Quaker Meeting House, probably built in the late 16th Century. Much of the house is unchanged since 1600, although it has been extended in its life. It is still in use as a Meeting House, see http://blueidol.org.

One most notable associate of the house is William Penn (a famous early Quaker and founder of the US state of Pennsylvania) who lived locally at Warminghurst, was very much involved in setting up the house for meetings, and was a regular worshipper there. The house is Grade 2 listed and in part used as a private residence so please be respectful of that (this is why we have flagged the cache as not recommended at night). The name of the house is thought to either be derived from a time when it was painted blue and was "idle", or perhaps from an ornamental blue idol in its gardens.

The William Penn gardens are open daily to visitors and are a very restful place to, err, rest. The cache should be easy to find, and is located just outside the garden. Visitor parking is available at the house, very close to the cache. The intention is to bring people to a very peaceful place. We hope you enjoy the location. This is also on the route of the West Sussex Literary Trail, see http://www.westsussexliterarytrail.co.uk.

The cache container has log book, pen (when placed) and a collection of small items for trade. There is room for small TBs and Geocoins.
