Glen Artney Trek - Bridge over Water of Ruchill

in our disclaimer.
This is the start of 2 seperate trails. One is a high level route on good tracks between Auchinner in Glen Artney and Braeleny above Callander. The route gives superb views of the surrounding hills and the dramatic mountains Ben Vorlich and Stuc a Chroin.
The other is a lower level route that follows the river back towards Comrie on the north bank. Go over the bridge at the end of the road and turn right through the field gate with the path sign.
There is a large cark park at Glen Artney church. Although the tarmac road continues beyond this to Auchinner there is no parking here. It is possible for a driver to drop you off here though and turn round.
Glen Artney was once a Royal Deer Forest supplying venison to the sovereigns of Scotland. Deer stalking still takes place in the hills between August and March. However this route goes along the right of way across the moorland and will be unaffected by any stalking activity. Dogs should be kept on a lead because of sheep.
Glen Artney was immortalised by Sir Walter Scott in 'The Lady of the Lake'
"The stag at eve had its fill
Where danced the moon on Monan's rill
And deep his midnight lair has made
In lone Glenartney's hazel shade"
Please be aware of prevailing conditions as the route is 14km one way. The tracks are passable on mountain bikes. There are many small burns to cross which may present difficulties after prolonged rain. The bridge at Arivurichadich washed away in the 2004 floods. A river crossing is now necessary.
Be aware of the conditions on the hills and your fitness level. Allow adequate time to complete your chosen route, ensuring you have appropriate clothing, food, drinks and maps with you. Please make sure someone is aware of your route and the approximate time you are due back.
If you are doing the walk one way, you will need to arrange transport to the end.
