Cache is a camo'd film canister. The cache is well hidden in a natural "pocket". I suggest you spend some time reading the sign, enjoying the view and take a walk down to the river. The cache is not meant to be difficult to find, it is meant to bring people to the area. However due to the traffic in the area many people stop here so it is well hidden, but very simple to find at the same time. I could only get an average of 11ft. but it should be very obvious!
I really love the North Fork, its very scenic, full of trails to hike, roads to drive and animals to see. As we all know several fires have ravashed the area. The first one in 1967, then again in 1988, and more recently several years ago. However each time it burns it generally comes back better. The last time though fire took so much of the old growth timber and blackened so much that for many people it is really no longer a place of beauty. My goal in placing this cache was firstly to add to my list that I have placed in the area. And secondly and more important was to get people up to this area again and educate them on why it looks as it does. When the fire burned up here about five years ago we owned logging equipment that was leased to the Forest Service and as a family business we were responsible for running the dozers, maitnence during the fire, and to do spot fire checks around our area. On several mornings the smoke would be so horrible it was like driving through darkness at nine in the morning. Everything glowed, smoked, or was on fire. It was so hard to see it all go up in smoke when it was your back yard burning, and a place you had such great memories. Hopefully it will not burn again and we can get some people up to the area to camp, enjoy the natural resouces and once again bring a recreational lifestyle back to the North Fork. There are several great places to fish, camp, have a family picnic or bring bino's and watch the bears and other wildlife across the river.
