It offers a magnificent panoramic view of the sea and is inhabited since the prehistoric period, as testify the many findings coming from the various archaeological excavations. Kastro has been built in the ruins of the ancient capital of Sifnos and is the only village of the island with a strong medieval character. A big part of its boundary walls survive as well as the features of a Venetian fortress. Narrow little streets, loggias, beautiful two-storey houses, superb old mansions and 16th and 17th century churches with ornamental floors are participating to the incredible beauty of Kastro. Venetian coats of arms and ancient wall-fragments can still be seen on most of the houses of the village. Visitors can also see some remains of the ancient acropolis and a small archaeological museum. This Cache is places at the most beautifull spot on the shoreside of the most beautifull village on sifnos island - Enjoy !
Small note on cache maintenance: I, and some coworkers, are here regularly for our work.
