The sad tale of Margaret Williams, aged 26, another young lady murdered. A VERY similar story to ~Eleanor Williams, (SS no 1) Both pregnant, both killed on a Saturday night, both Carmarthenshire girls in service and both murdered on estates owned by the same man. Even the inscriptions on the gravestones are very similar
Having found herself pregnant, Margaret named the son of the man she had been in service to as the father of her baby and either left his emplyment or was turned out after that.
The inscription on her gravestone reads:
1832, To record MURDER. This stone was erected over the body of MARGARET WILLIAMS, aged 26. A native of Carmarthenshire. Living in service in this parish. Who was found dead with the marks of violence upon her person in a ditch on the marsh below this churchyard on the morning of Sunday the 14th July 1822. Although the Savage Murderer Escape for a season the detention of man, Yet God hath set His mark upon him either for time or eternity and the Cry of Blood will assuredly pursue him to certain and terrible righteous JUDGEMENT.
The gravestone is set at an angle to the rest, facing the house of the man Llewelyn Richards, who was believed'accused of being the murderer. There beingno evidence to prove the murder, except that of a man who sawe them together that evening, Llewelyn was acquitted. Strangely, in another story,it was the man who said that he had seen the couple arguing that night, that apparently admitted to the murder himself, on his deathbed. We will never really know.
