Decided to place this one while out for the day hiking and caching some of the CJ’s caches and the Tekoa cache. What a hike! Don’t try this late in the day. Leave yourself plenty of time to enjoy the great views. We hiked up, found some caches, had lunch at the top and hid this cache. Leisurely round trip took 3 hours.
When we got near the top (where the clearing and camp is), we took a detour down the little path to the right that went down to a steep ledge. Great views from here. When we stepped out onto the ledge, a group of hawks flew up from beneath. Not sure if we startled them more than they startled us!
I’ve heard this place nick named Rattlesnake Mountain, so beware in the summer.
Parking is available on Strathmore Mill Rd or just over the tracks on Pochassic Rd, but go to the left as the right is a private drive.
To get to the cache, take the orange trail to the top where there’s a clearing and a very interesting make-shift camp. Look to your left and take the path. A little ways up take a left on the white trail (marked on a pile of rocks). The cache is just off the trail a little. When you get to the great view, look down. It’s there…but be careful, it’s rocky. I’ve gotta think a fall would leave a nice mark.
