Geocache Description:

The above co-ordinates are for the Church of St Nicholas at Bratton Seymour - there is nothing hidden at this location. The church sits on Bratton Hill, giving excellent views across to Penn Ridge. Visit the church and nearby sites for clues and then find the cache. You will have to cross a couple of stiles.

After parking the car, either at the top or bottom of Church Walk, walk towards the church.

At N51°04.127 W002°27.740 you will find a tree dedicated to Miss Brooks, a former Headmistress of the school which used to be here.

How long was she the Headmistress?

Record this as A 1 years.

And in which year did she start?

Record this 1 B C 5.

Once you have this information make your way to the church. You will see that the doorway arch is made up of decorated stones.

How many decorated stones are there in the arch to the left of the key stone?

Record this as D.

The church is normally open so have a look inside and around the church yard - it is a very peaceful spot.

To continue with the cache, leave the church yard via a path leading down directly to the road - head for the kissing gate at N51°04.132 W002°27.699.

When you reach the road, turn right and head for N51°04.064 W002°27.690 where you will find a drain made by Aimes and Barford, General Land and Drainage Company, Peterborough in 1867.

What No is the drain? Record this as E 7.

Now make your way to the entrance of Church Farm at N51°04.042 W002°27.698.

Don't worry about the lack of a sign post - there is a footpath! Use the pedestrian gate next to the wooden automatic one and walk through the farm buildings, away from the house, to N51°04.042 W002°27.602 where you will find a gate.

Go through this gate and then follow the footpath around Church Farm. You will pass through a succession of gates at:

N51°04.094 W002°27.535

N51°04.128 W002°27.546

N51°04.156 W002°27.543

After passing through these gates, make your way across/around the field to the final gate at N51°04.226 W002°27.503.

From this point you have an uninterupted view across to Redlynch, Alfreds Tower, Pen Ridge and a bit of Wincanton Racecourse. If you are here at dusk you will even be able to make out the 303 as it heads downhill, passing Penselwood and the Hunters Lodge.

You are looking for an ammo box hidden at N51°0 E . C D E W002°2 D . C A B.

Use the signed footpaths and gates/stiles provided. You do not need to go through any hedges or cross barbed wire at any point.

Enjoy the view
