This has to be one of the coolest museums in Chicago! Sad that the
owner is not conducting tours that often anymore. Try visiting on
Sunday afternoon and ring the bell. Who knows! She might let you
in. :)
Museum of Holography
It’s the nation’s only museum of holography.
It’s also the world’s most complete facility for the
display and sale of artistic and scientific holography. Those are
pretty grandiose claims for a museum that unassumingly sits inside
a plain brick office building in the West Loop.
It feels like an old, dark musty museum that should house
ancient artifacts, but it’s really home to hundreds of
leading-edge holographs: images that require complex mathematic
equations, a two-ton stability table, and a laser to be
produced.
On display here is an unusual array of images including kittens
pawing at your face, an elephant swinging its trunk, and even
Michael Jordan back on the basketball court—all moving in
three dimensions.
