Geocache Description:

A really interesting spot to look out onto the bay

This Causeway was originally built in 1878 to shorten the journey between Edithburgh and Coobowie by four and half miles (7kms) at high tide. The total cost back then was five hundred and forty Pounds!

The Causeway became blocked due to natural tidal flow to the inlet which, over the years, became saltier and nearly stagnant.

In December 2005, a group of committed local people, with the support of the Coastal Protection Board through the Department of Heritage and with the support also of the Yorke Peninsula District Council, initiated the "restoration" of the causeway. Tidal flow was restored and we know have this wonderful spot to view and admire (BUT NO FISHING!!!) You will also notice that there is NO motorbikes allowed on the Walking Trail but to the Groms disappointment (but then they don't ride in dunes or local tourist tracks - they concentrate their riding and practice at "endorsed" tracks and at home.
