Geocache Description:

3 Events to be held at Brushy Creek including the 4th Annual CITO Event being joined by a garlic mustard pull and a prairie burn.

4th Annual CITO
along with Mustard Pulling & Prairie Burning

SATURDAY, April 18

Get a connection to the land! Join others in picking up trash, pulling invasive weeds, and watching a night prairie burn. The Iowa DNR and Webster County Conservation sponsor this family-oriented, free event. Wear work clothes, sturdy shoes, and gloves. Bags will be provided for trash and garlic mustard. Become a steward of your land.

Each event will meet at the Prairie Resource Center at Brushy Creek.

1:00 – 4:00pm---- Cache-In Trash-Out
Using GPS units, participants will find caches (hidden “treasures”) throughout the park and pick up trash along the way. Learn more about this popular outdoor recreation.

4:00 — Great Garlic Mustard Pull
Let’s see how large of a pile of alien invaders we can pull. A quick lesson on identifying the invasive garlic mustard and learning the agency’s plan of attack will be followed by “the pull”. Hot dogs will be provided for supper before the night burn. Bring your own beverage.

7:00pm----Night Prairie Burn
Experience the thrill of a large controlled fire at dusk. Join experts for a brief lesson in prairie management followed by a prairie burn (weather permitting) at a remote site.
Witness a glimpse into history and learn about this effective management tool.

Directions to Brushy Creek: From Hwy 20-- Turn south on County blacktop P73. , just south of Duncombe exit. Continue south approximately 3.5 miles. Turn east on Lake view drive. This road winds thru the park, past the campground, across the dam and finally turns south just east of the dam. The Prairie Resource Center will be the 2nd set of buildings on the east side of the road. There is a sign in front of the office.

Cancellation will be posted on this web page.
