Geocache Description:

Can be access either from Munlochy village or from the Munlochy Bay Hide carpark. From the car park a pleasant walk along part of the disused railway line from Muir of Ord to Fortrose which is now part of a local foot path network.

From the cache if you look down to the head of Munlchy Bay you should see an area of saltmarsh which has about 10 oblong pits cut out of it. (visit link) Archaeology records suggest they were quarry pits used for clay extraction. How boring is that? Local anecdotes suggest that they were fish ponds for the monks based at Fortrose Cathedral - more interesting!

What do you think?

I'll go for the stew ponds for the time being.

Enjoy the walk
