Kleiner Rundgang durch Rhnynern
Short stroll through Rhynern
Rhynern ist mit 59,22 km² der nach Fläche größte Stadtbezirk der Stadt Hamm in Westfalen. Er hat 18.578 Einwohner und somit eine Einwohnerdichte von 314 Einwohner je km². Der Ort ist überwiegend ländlich-agrarisch geprägt. Der Name wird 'Rienern' ausgesprochen und nicht 'Rünern', wie viele fälschlicherweise meinen.
Die älteste urkundliche Erwähnung Rhynerns als Rhineri findet sich in einer etwa auf das Jahr 1000 zu datierenden Handschrift, die sich im Staatsarchiv Münster befindet. Im Jahr 1302 gelangte das Officium Rinhere als Pfand aus dem Besitz der Bischöfe von Münster in den Besitz der Grafen von der Mark und wurde nicht mehr ausgelöst. Während der französischen Besatzung in 19. Jahrhundert entstand 1808 das Amt Rhynern als Mairie. Nach Wiederherstellung des preußischen Westfalen als Provinz Westfalen blieb es bestehen.
Bereits am 1. April 1939 wurde das Dorf Mark aus dem Amt ausgegliedert und nach Hamm eingemeindet. Mit dem 1. Januar 1968 wurde aus dem Amt Rhynern die Großgemeinde Rhynern. Diese bleib jedoch nur bis zum 31. Dezember 1974 bestehen, ab dem Folgetag gehörte sie – ohne Hilbeck – zu Hamm.

Rhynern is with an area of 59.22 km² the largest part of the city of Hamm, Westfalia. It has 18,578 inhabitants and therefore a population density of 314 inhabitants per km². The village is mainly a rural area. Rhynern is pronounced [Reenern] and not as wrongly thought [Ryynern].
The oldest documentation of Rhynern as Rhineri dates back to the year 1000 and can be found in the archive of Münster. In the year 1302 the Officium Rinhere was given as pawn from the bishops of Münster to the Lord of the Mark and has never been redeemed. During the French occupation in the 19th century the Mairie Rhynern was founded in 1808. After the reestablishment of Prussian Westfalia it existed further on.
December 31st 1974 the independence of Rhynern came to an end and it became part of the city of Hamm.
