Geocache Description:

WELCOME TO THE 2nd 2009
WILL COUNTY CITO EVENT!

Cache In Trash Out

PRESENTED BY:

Not only is Joliet Junior College the nation's oldest public community college, the main campus on Joliet's far west side showcases some of the area's most diverse landscape unique to the Northern Illinois area. The landscape here includes such features as a Prairie Fen, Prairie Marsh, Calcareous Prairie, Oak Savanna in addition to an active arboretum collection, and horticultural display gardens! Our focus for this CITO will be on the areas to the WEST and NORTH of Area #6 on the map above.

    When:
    SATURDAY, MAY 2, 2009 (10 AM - 3 PM) - TWO SHIFTS 10-12 and 1-3

    What to Expect:

    • In addition to practicing CITO, we will be mainly focusing on cutting non-native brush and stacking it into piles for eventual pick up and chipping.
    • The FDWC will provide leather palm work gloves but it is recommended that you bring your own if you have them.
    • Wear sturdy clothing; Jeans, long sleeve shirt, and sturdy work boots (shorts not recommended).
    • A signed JJC waiver must be turned in by ALL participants on the day of the event. The form will be posted to this page when it becomes available, and we will have waiver forms available for anyone who needs one on the day of the event. Participants under 18 year of age need to have the waiver signed by parent or guardian.

Provided by the Forest Preserve District of Will County:
The Forest Preserve District of Will County will be providing work gloves and other essential tools applicable to the tasks being done..

    FREE LUNCH:
Joliet Junior College will be providing a FREE lunch for ALL partipants at 12:00 NOON.

    RAFFLES and DOOR PRIZES:
At the end of the event those who participated will be eligible for our door prize drawing. There will be a variety of items raffled, including ammo cans, cache containers, geocoins, etc...

A couple of reminders for those planning to attend this event:

    1. When entering JJC from Houbolt Road, follow the entrance road to the right toward the parking lot (and posted coordinates) for the "J" building. The event will be taking place just to the west of this parking area. There will also be a 5K race taking place in the other parking lots, so please avoid those lots if possible.

    2. There are 2 shifts for the CITO, 10-12 and/or 1-3. You can come for one or both shifts if you would like. It is totally up to you.

    3. Lunch will be provided FREE of charge by the fine folks at JJC. It will begin at 12:00 in the J building cafeteria, so if you are coming to either shift, be sure to be there at NOON to eat.

    4. If you have work gloves and sturdy boots, please plan on bringing them to the event. The FPDWC will have some extra gloves on hand, but plan to bring your own.

    5. The work will be very similar to the work done at the previous Will County CITO at Keepataw Preserve. We will be cutting non-native/invasive brush and stacking them into piles for eventual chipping.

    6. There will be several raffles taking place during the lunch hour. Winners MUST be present! So, be sure to be there for lunch at noon so you don't miss out on some great prizes!

    7. If you've not registered on this page yet as "Will Attend", please do so ASAP, so that I can confirm the headcount for lunch.
