Visit the Douglas Street Statues Tour

Whether visiting the Wichita area for a convention or just wanting to see the figures down Douglas Avenue, this cache is for you. A VERY easy and fun stroll up and down the downtown area in less than an hour, seeing most of the figurines and brass statues by the Wichita Beautification Project. Starting at Century II Convention Center, down to Broadway, crossing the street and then back to the Broadview Hotel. The final cache is not available because of the construction but send the coordinates to me and I will confirm and then you can log the find. All are easy finds in order, and wheelchair accessible, and kid friendly, except for the cache location. There is ALSO 9 other nice caches in this same area and one more within one more block. 1. Start at Century II Convention Center, there is a medal sculpture located off Douglas, West of the building. What is the 3rd digit of the year the Tripodal was dedicated, located on a plaque on the NE corner? _____Call that I
2. Head EAST on the same side of the street, you will find a large black locked cage by the street! How many ducks are down by the cage? _____ Call that E
3. Next find a large area where a 5 & Dime Store once was located that refused to allow black people to eat at the lunch counter before the late 50’s. There is a replica of that counter! How many forks are located on the counter surface? _____ Call that M.
4. How many sets of Salt and Pepper shakers and add to it the straw containers that are on the counter? _____ Call that N
5. How many children are playing ON the scooters? _____ Call that F
6. How many figures are at the counter? _____Call that C
7. OK, now on down the street, there is a plaque on a corner planter! What is the number of letters in the LAST name of the Memorial beside the fox that caught a bird? _____ Call that L
8. Now cross the street and go back West at Broadway! There are some kids playing in the water, how many cups are they holding? _____ Call that J
9. Next, you will find a cow with its calf; beside them are how many ducks?
_____ Call that A At this time, the ducks have mysteriously disappeared so I will give you that number. It is 3.
10. You will find a large black cage like across the street but with paper machines in them. How many dogs are guarding this? _____ Call this D
11. How many pups are with the dog? _____ Call this K
12. There is a man reading the Wichita Eagle paper with his shoes off! Count ALL the holes in the tiles around him that water squirts out of in the summer months? _____ Call this H
13. Now you will find a Papa Johns Pizza Restaurant if you are hungry or thirsty. In that area are some picnic tables and a statue of a horse and Indian, on the NE corner there is the name and date of that statue! What is the 3rd. number of the date? _____Call that B
14. YEA, almost done!! On the bridge over the ARKANSAS River. How many large “Feather Towers” standing tall, are located on BOTH sides of the bridge? _____ Call that G

OK, NOW replace the letters with the numbers and place them in the corresponding spaces on the sheet. You should be able to find it now. I have replaced the cache since they are finished with the construction. Have fun!!
