Geocache Description:

The route follows an ATV trail until Checkpoint Charlie, and then you’ll have to hump it up the hill. ADVICE FOR THE CACHE: Stay on the ATV trail! The trail twists and turns toward the checkpoints, so if your GPS points you in a direction that may take you over some difficult terrain; be patient, stay on the trail and eventually you will turn a corner and intercept the course on more agreeable terrain. You will want to conserve your energy for the last hike up the hill!

INTEL FRAG

On December 24, 2008 at 1930 hours local time, three Devil Dog recon troops were dispatched from a secret command post near Stevens Gap. Their mission was to set up an intelligence cache so front line commanders, using runners, could exchange sensitive information about future battle plans without the use of land line or radio transmissions.

At approx. 2243 hours local time, radio communications was lost with the three Marines. It is believed that they had met resistance from elements of the 3rd regiment of the People’s Liberation Army of Idabel. Intelligence fears that the Marines have been captured.

Prior to the loss of communication, the Marines managed to upload checkpoint information and photos via satellite uplink. It is unknown if the Marines were successful in placing the intelligence cache.

OP ORDER: RAZORBACK

Your mission is to land navigate to the last set of coordinates received; via the checkpoints that were provided by the recon troops. Verify that the cache is in place and feel free to exchange your own intelligence with “extreme prejudice”.

CHECKPOINT INTEL

The coordinates listed for this cache brings you the starting point (entrance to AO Razorback). There are no caches at the checkpoints, they are there to guide you to a successful mission.

Checkpoint Pusan (N 34 13.178/W 094 46.301) Elev. 1006 ft.:

The Battle of Pusan Perimeter was fought in August and September 1950 between United Nations Command forces combined with South Korean forces and the forces of North Korea. The Marines managed to achieve the first US victory of the war on this front. American troops and equipment, including the first tanks, began to pouring in, and the perimeter at Pusan held. The North Koreans attempted two major crossings of the Naktong River. The attacks were contained, and the city of Taejon was held. By the middle of September, the Pusan perimeter seemed nearly secure.

Checkpoint Khe Sanh (N34 13.415/W 094 46.136) Elev. 1027 ft.:

On 24 April 1967, a patrol from Bravo Company became engaged with a PAVN force of unknown size north of Hill 861. This action prematurely triggered a North Vietnamese offensive aimed at taking Khe Sanh. The PAVN forces were in the process of gaining elevated terrain before the launching of the main attack. The 2nd and 3rd Battalions of the 3rd Marine Regiment, under the command of Colonel John P. Lanigan, reinforced KSCB (Khe Sanh Combat Base) and were given the task of pushing the North Vietnamese off of Hills 861, 881 North, and 881 South. North Vietnamese forces were driven out of the area around Khe Sanh after suffering 940 casualties. The Marines suffered 155 killed in action and 425 wounded. In order to prevent PAVN observation of the main base at the airfield (and their possible use as firebases), the hills of the surrounding Khe Sanh Valley had to be continuously occupied and defended by separate Marine elements, thereby spreading out the defense.

Checkpoint Charlie (N 34 13.565/W 094 46.231) Elev. 1072 ft.:

The name given by the Western Allies to a crossing point between East Berlin and West Berlin during the Cold War, located at the junction of Friedrichstraße with Zimmerstraße and Mauerstraße (which for older historical reasons coincidentally means 'Wall Street').

Objective: Intelligence Cache (N 34 13.597/W 094 46.125) Elev. 1210 ft.

A place to trade military paraphernalia like stickers, patches, unit crests, etc; or whatever you like.
