The cache is hidden in an area that is approached through an open heathland and a lovely wood. Wildlife thrive there and if you are lucky you may see some deer and buzzards circling overhead.
THE NUN'S WELL
Beyond the cache site, you can see the oak tree that covers the Nun's Well that gives this area its name. You can access it via a permissive path and a couple of stiles. TIP: Take a torch if you want to see inside.
Local legend has it that hundreds of years ago, an unfortunate nun was once pushed down this well, with the well promptly being covered up.
Supposedly, years later, farm labourers uncovered the well and her phantom appeared before them. The well has since become overgrown by a tree, although a chasm is still visible between its roots.
There are also other historical sites visible here; the reputed site of Redmore Abbey, a fish pond for the abbey and a moat.
P.S. The parking area seems to be locked over winter and as of 07/05/09, the car park is STILL closed but this doesn't mean the site is closed - park where you can and have a happy hunt - Good Luck!
PLEASE LEAVE THE CACHE WELL HIDDEN.
Congratulations to Izzy & The Lizard King for the FTF!!
