Geocache Description:

This cache is here to replace Bernie's Travelling cache requested by Groundhog & Shadow as they thought a cache should be replaced here for the historical significance of this site and would not be able to maintain it from their home base.

As the sign states:
In 1864 whispers of "Kootenay Gold" circulated along the Pacific Slope, drawing prospectors from all across the west to a creek known as the "Wild Horse". A year later, several thousand miners were encamped along the creek or living in the boom town of Fisherville. Pack trains from American towns serviced the miners and untaxed gold flowed southward. To check this economic drain and to assert control over this isolated part of the Colony, The Dewney Trail was completed to Wild Horse Creek in 1865. Three years later the gold rush subsided, but the name Wild Horse Creek still lives on in the annals of B.C. mining.
