Geocache Description:

Fairmont has a ski hill it's just that no one can ski on it.

Here's how it came about (as I remember it.) Back in the 70s downhill skiing was quite popular in our area. There were many church groups that organized ski trips to Mankato, St. Cloud and Minneapolis. Instead of going out of town all the time, someone had the idea to convert the old, unused garbage incinerator site into a ski hill. The City of Fairmont checked with their insurance carrier and they were told the premium wouldn't be too high for the new venture. The bulldozers started working, the land was reshaped and a tow rope was installed. Plans for a chalet were in the works. Then all the efforts fell apart with a call from the insurance carrier stating that the insurance would be very high for a ski hill. The project had to be abandon and the tow rope came down. It's too bad the hill didn't work out. It would have been a nice addition to the city. Enjoy the site.

Shush down the bunny hill and find the cache. It contains a first to find cash prize and some other small trade items.

Don't stop on the interstate, the cache is not accessible from there.

Winter caution: You can see the smoke stack at the site from a long way off. The stack marks the top of the ski hill. You can drive up to it in the summer months. Winter snow may require quite a hike from the plowed road.
