The time
has come again for yet another WWFM and with the success of WWFM
III, WWFM IV should be bigger and better!
Last
May's WWFM had 167 events world wide in 15 countries, 11 Canadian
providences and 45 states and U.S. Territories. An estimate just
shy of 20,000 cachers attended these events and plans are to top
that number with WWFM IV!!!
Locally
we had 42 attendees from the panhandle area and a surprise from
some international cachers on vacation in our area from Germany!
I'm hoping we can top that # this time!
WWFM IV
This is a “Flash Mob” event that is synchronized with other “Flash
Mob” events world wide!!!
The
concept of the Geocaching World Wide Flash Mob, created by Sonny
and Sandy of the PodCacher Podcast is simple: dozens if not
hundreds of geocachers briefly come together for an event on
November 8th 2008, all on the same day, all around the world at
numerious locations. At a precise time they come together, have a
group meal (chocolate chip cookies), take a group photo, maybe do
something silly and then disperse, vanishing with the wind.
Typically the whole thing happens in a flash, in 15 minutes or
less! Panama City will be having an event for the second time to
commemorate this world wide geocaching event.
Saturday,
November 8th - 12pm-12:15pm - H.G. Harders Park - Come enjoy 15
mins of geocaching fame with other cachers from around NW Florida
and S Alabama!
At
exactly 12:00pm sharp!(as determined by the GPS clock) an ammo box
will be placed on the ground at the designated coordinates and a
signal will be given to signify the start of the event. You may
then converge on the location for the official event. Log sheets
will be handed out.
BYOPSign individual log sheets and drop them in the
ammo can. Then mingle and chat with your fellow
cachers.
12:05pm
The event “meal” will be served. Don’t bring a big appetite – it’s
just a chocalate chip cookie!
12:07pm
???door prizes???
12:10pm
Assemble for and take group photo.
12:14pm
One minute warning is called. Clean up and prepare to leave, but
don’t obviously look like you are preparing to
leave.
12:15pm
Log entries sealed & closed! If you missed the signing you
missed the event. LEAVE the area as quickly as you gathered. Act
like nothing happened.
Events
that happen after 12:15:01pm do not count as part of THIS
event!
Prior to
the event: Drive to one of the designated parking areas near the
coordinates. Get out of your car and pretend you are a muggle. Act
like you don't know anyone else. IMPORTANT: Be nonchalant and
casual. Don't look like a gathering waiting to happen. Mosey as
realistically as you can. This is part of the fun. Our gathering
will seem to appear out of nowhere so that muggles will not know
what is going on...
If you
plan to attend please use the "Will Attend" option . Place this
event in your "WATCH LIST" to receive updates. Email any
suggestions, they are always welcomed.
