Briggs Shead was a representative of one of the early pioneer families in this area, arriving from New York in 1852.
After acquiring his land in the fall, he realized they had only enough money for some lumber and a sack of flour. With the spring planting several monthes away, they sold butter tubs and barrels , which father and son hewed from timber near the cabin door. They hauled these by sled the 3 miles to Eureka, and thus survived their first Wisconsin winter.
Briggs Shead's cabin was located near this plot of land, on an island knoll in the forest, which he named for his father.
The cache is not on nor near any markers. If a service is in progress, please return at a later time.
Congrats to Sparse Gray Hackle on FTF!
