Geocache Description:

Located in a historic section of Millis called "Rockville".

The Rockville Fire Station and Waite Mill Park are located on this property.

Rockville got its’ own fire engine company in 1857 and they spent $400 on the purchase of an engine. No record has been uncovered as yet as to what that engine might have been. We do know that it came already painted with the name Union No. 3. The Niagara was scheduled to be No. 3 but rather than make the Rockville folks repaint their engine the Niagara Engine Co. graciously agreed to change to No. 4. The current Peacock was purchased from the Rumsey & Co., Ltd. of Seneca Falls, NY in the late 1880s or early 1890s.

"Enoch Waite and his family emigrated from England to this country and started the first felt mill in Lawrence, Massachusetts. He later moved to Franklin, Massachusetts, and in 1878 he moved his business to Rockville and started the Waite Felt Mill. They manufactured light weight felt for shoulder pads and a heavier felt product for saddle pads. In 1912 the American Felt Company purchased the entire operation from the Waite family. With changing times and industrial conditions, American Felt relinquished the building and water rights to Millis in 1920.

This is our first cache with the help of FINDIT. It is a clear 6x9 LnL loaded with lots of goodies for all ages, plus a surprise for FTF.
