Geocache Description:

Remarkably Hampshire and West Sussex are both oil producing counties. This on-going series hopes to show you the sites that are quietly contributing to the oil production of the world. The hazardous nature of the sites means close access isn’t always possible, but all the caches should be informative. There are no clues to collect or bonus to find, but hopefully the series will grow as new sites are discovered.

Singleton 1 was discovered in 1989. At the time it broke the record for the longest 8.5” hole section drilled onshore in the UK. In 2007 it produced 29,537 barrels. The Oil Well is located in Singleton Forest. A series of 6 caches lead to the entrance of the site. The walk takes about an hour through a variety of terrains. Tree cover throughout the walk can provide poor GPS signal so clues and titles are as descriptive as possible. Difficulty ratings are adjusted for this reason.
Still following the blue public bridleway sign. The route is steep and rough in places. GPS signal may vary due to tree cover.

This cache is a micro containing a log book
