Geocache Description:

The discovery of crop circles in a remote area of the Interlake has intrigued the UFO researcher who debunked Manitoba's last similar phenomenon. The author of 4 books about local UFO sightings and related phenomena in Manitoba, Chris Rutkowski is contemplating a trip to a field east of Ashern where locals have discovered unusual markings on some unused crown land. " It would be interesting to take a look and see what has people excited" Rutkowski said yesterday. Chuck Gosselin found the site while on a nature hike with his wife Laverne. " If you put that i thought it was a spaceship ,everyone would think I'm a nut," Gosselin told The Interlake Spectator. The Gosselin's happened across several donut-shaped markings , with a small circle of live growth in the exact center of a large circle of dead vegetation. The perfectly formed circles ranged fron 10-25 feet in diameter, and at least 4 appear to have been created in the past year. Some circles may be up to 5 years old, judging from the amount of regrowth, Gosselin said. That factor particularily piqued Rutkowski's interest. " An arguement against hoaxing would be: What's the point of doing it if they're not going to be found for a year? " Rutkowski said. Lesley Bond, a Manitoba Agriculture rep. from the area , was baffled after visiting the site. "It's definitely the first time I've seen anything like this and I don't have an explanation for it" Bond said.
In time the circles faded away as the groundcover returned
July 4,2008 This story appeared in The Winnipeg Sun in responce to a report by The Interlake Spectator. Also involved was a reporter from the CBC radio who asked Gosselin what he wanted out of this report and the reply was simply I wanted to find out the cause of those marks. This reporter was sent to Labrador where these marks are found in profusion and upon investigation found that the marks were caused by limestone below the ground that had formed a basin which acted as a reservoir for the ground water. The water then froze during the cold winter causing the grass roots to freeze out, resulting in dead grass in the shape of a basin This condition is known as permafrost kill.
