Walter's Protea Rest
This cache is located
in the Walter Sisulu (Witwatersrand) National Botanical Garden
(established in 1982), along the JCI interprative geological
trail. Opening times, entrance fees and further information
can be found
here.
We'd suggest that you
follow the trail and take a rest at the cache location. While
you're here you'll spot the Common Sugar bush (Protea caffra subsp.
caffra) while the Silver Sugar bush (Protea roupelliae subsp.
roupelliae) is more prevalent as you ascend. More information about
the naturally occurring trees in the Walter Sisulu gardens can
be found
here.
If you're planning to spend some time caching in the gardens, this
will be the first cache on an anti-clockwise walk along the
geological trail. You might want to stop at a few waypoints of one
of the other caches in the gardens en route. There are a large
number of caches hidden here (There are four mystery caches in
the garden, but that is all we will tell you!
) - the
attached file provides a suggested sequence (A walk of 7km or
more for the round trip - very
worthwhile!).
Sunscreen and a hat, along with something to drink are highly
recommended.
The cache consists of a small container containing a log book,
pencil and trade items. Please exercise caution when
retrieving the cache since the location is slightly off the path
and as a result you may attract some
attention..
