Hunter and Quarry is a traditional
cache which takes you on a stroll along a little used
footpath next to Billown Quarry. After walking through the
field of wheat, climb the stile to the overgrown footpath.
Rather than bringing your own scythe it's best to climb the
hedge to the quarry. Trousers are necessary. On the rare
occasions that the red flag is up, blasting is in progress
and access is denied along the path.
When the quarry is closed in the evening and at weekends, have a
quick walk to the view point. From here you can see the extent of
the excavation as well as the tremendous views of the South to
Langness Lighthouse, Castle Rushen, King Bill's, the Witches Mill
and Milner's Tower.
The area has been subject to archaeological digs and has a long
history of settlement. You may be lucky and find a piece of worked
flint.

The nearest parking place is in the layby between Church Bends and
Cross Four Ways. The trail head coordinates are listed below, take
care crossing the roads.
If you'd like to walk a whole circuit from the cache back to your
car, the map below shows the route. It can be muddy and over-grown
with fields of cows to pass through, but it's a very nice walk
until the main road section.
