An extremely small rust coloured magnetic nano cache hidden in the heart of Albania's capital.
The Bell of Peace is a memorial to those who died in 1997 following the collapse of the Pyramid Investment Scheme. The Bell was made from melted down bullets and features children dancing symbolising Albania's hope for a better future.
It hangs in front of the old Enva Hoxha Memorial building, known locally as the Pyramid. It was opened in 1988 on the 80th anniversary of the dictator's birth, and closed in 1991. It was designed by his daughter Pranvera. It has been compared to a concrete flying saucer that has landed in the middle of Tirana and is a strikingly ugly example of Albanian Modernist architecture in contrast to some of Tirana's more beautiful buildings in the vicinity of Skanderbeg Square. Originally it contained more or less everything Hoxha ever touched or used and in the centre was a marble statue of Hoxha by Kristaq Rama. It was in it's way one of the weirdest museums in the world. Since it's closure it has been used variously as a conference centre and a computer training centre. The demolition of this increasingly delapidated structure would probably be the best tribute to the meglomania and self serving ego of Hoxha whose legacy is best consigned to History's dustbin.
