Geocache Description:

The overall difficulty is rated a 3 due to me not having much faith in the coordinates; details below.

This cache is located in an extremely scenic canyon in the San Rafael Swell. The road is a very good dirt road suitable for cars with low clearances, but avoid it when wet.

The canyon(Buckhorn Wash) was a favorite route for cowboys, cattle rustlers and outlaws-especially Butch Cassidy and his Wild Bunch, on the way to the Robbers Roost hideout. Posses frequently traveled the canyon in pursuit of wanted men. Very near the cache site is the Matt Warner inscription. Matt had a very colorful and lengthy career (18 years) as an outlaw before he was arrested and sent to prison. Upon release, he turned straight and eventually served several positions in law enforcement, making him both an outlaw and a lawman.

Alas, when the cache was placed I didn't have much time to take a number of readings-I only took 4. The co-ords varied as follows:

N 39°08.239'
08.228'
08.228'
08.216'
W 110°42.236'
42.254'
42.264'
42.255'

Were it not for this variance, I'd rate the overall difficulty lower, perhaps a 2.
To get quite close to this cache, go to the bridge over the San Rafael River, then drive north about 5.3 miles to a pullout on the right. Matt's inscription is located about 40 feet above the road. The cache is about 35 feet above the road.

Original contents:
Two custom themed CDs, "Outlaws and Lawmen"; Some themed toys for the kiddies; Historical information on the canyon and about Matt Warner. Also, the Starship Enterprise Traveling Cache.

When I get a chance I will go back and take additional waypoints, then edit this cache. 8-27-02 I returned and replaced the cache container as the original looked a bit gnawed upon.
