A magnificent view on a historical place.
The castle of Parga was built by the Venetians, when they took over the protection of the city, after a treaty in 1401. The period of the Venetian administration was interrupted by the Ottoman occupation 1452-1454. The castle and the houses in its interior were destroyed by Hariedin Barbarossa in 1537. That event led to the construction of a new, stronger fortress by the Venetians in 1567. The destruction of the castle once again by the Ottoman fleet in 1571 led to its final rebuilding in 1572.
You can find more information of the history of the castle in the café inside the castle.
