The Coloma water tower is unique because it was the first of its
kind ever built.
On March 8, 1940, the village board authorized the issuance of
$3,500 bonds to buy an elevate tank. They placed an order with
Chicago Bridge and Iron Works for a 40,000 gallon spherical tank on
a 77 foot pedestal.
By June 7, 1940, construction was about completed. The tank is
99 feet high over all and the sphere is 22 feet in diameter. The
cost was $4,000.
On July 2, 1940, it was filled with 57,000 gallons, the capacity
of the tank and pedestal. There were about 60 original users and
the rate was $20.00 per year.
