Vienna was once known as Colvin’s Post Office (1838), but was incorporated as Vienna in 1848. The Old Wire Road began as an Indian trail and was the first road across the North Louisiana wilderness. Vienna was an overnight stop on the Monroe-Shreveport Stagecoach Road, later called the Old Wire Road when the telegraph line was strung along it.
