This portion of the SRKG in Springfield is called the Protectworth Trail, the original name given to the land by the Portsmouth proprietors. The town name was changed to Springfield at its incorporation in 1778. For those who may be interested in doing more of this 75 mile loop it is advised to pick up the SRKG Trail Guide or visit the website . The preceding description was taken from the guide book.

This cache was placed on Mother's Day 2008 with the original developer of this section of trail. It is with great honor and humility that I name that person - Cynthia Bruss our beloved mother. If you ever have the pleasure of "hitting the trail" with this 71 yr old woman you are in for a treat. Not only will you be walking with one of the original developers of this and other trails but she is a wealth of outdoor information which spans over her lifetime of living on and loving the earth. So heres to you MA, long may you hike and continue to hold council everytime you step foot on your trails.
