Ammo box near 100' waterfall. Access is from Appalachian Trail.
Instead of keeping up with the Jones, why don't you take a nice hike to fall down with them? The Jones Falls are a 100' cascade of water reached by a blue blazed spur trail off the AT. Seriously folks, be careful at the falls, as the TN Eastman hiking club installed a warning sign due to the several injuries there.
Access is one of two directions. From the west (or trail south for the AT), park at Campbell Hollow Road where the white blazes are seen. Head into the evergreen forest and hike just over two miles on well maintained trail (we did the work today) to the blue blazed spur trail. From the East (or trail north), the closest access is to park at Elk Falls (whether there is a traditional and earthcache). Hike up the forest service road past the locked gate to a field along the Elk River. Find the fisherman trail along the river until it intersects the white blazed AT. Head to the left! The spur trail to the waterfall is reached. The former is easier to find - and both are roughly the same distance. The latter gives two waterfalls (and caches) to find.
The cache is a dark brown ammo box. Original contents were aimed for thru-hikers with several Readers Digest and other small magazines. There is also a baseball, a stuffed hound dog, and Red Handed geocoin. Please sign the logbook (there was a pencil in the cache) and let us know how the trip in was for you.
Please make sure your access route from the trail is covered up so that others can have a similar challenge.
